The organizations in this list are considered to be some of the most efficient fundraisers and spenders. They are tax exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and file annual Forms 990 to report their finances. You will find well-known groups, such as the American Red Cross, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and World Wildlife Fund, but there might also be some smaller charities that you don't recognize. Other major soliciting organizations, such as the Salvation Army, might not be listed at all. Many times these groups are run by religious organizations that are exempt from filing the Form 990.
We encourage you to scroll through GiveSpot's Top Highly Rated Charities list and check the charities out for yourself. Find one that supports a cause close to your heart, or discover a new, worthy organization. The list is by no means comprehensive, nor is it meant to be a rigid guide for your giving. The groups are all national or international in scope, and we recognize that there are many worthy community causes out there. Before you donate, use our Evaluate Charities resources to find updated financial and ratings information, then visit the group's Web site or make a phone call to be sure your money is going to the place you deem to be the best.
