Launched in 1948 by one of the founders of United Parcel Service, the Annie E. Casey Foundation
distributes grants to public and nonprofit social programs.
The foundation's goals are to improve the systems serving needy children and families and to transform neighborhoods.
The foundation also established many initiatives, such as Family to Family,
which seeks to reform the child welfare and foster care programs.
The Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative works to
improve the confinement conditions of young offenders.
