This independent evaluator rates more than 5,000 American charities using a numbers-based ratings system that focuses on day-to-day functioning and sustainability over time. Charity Navigator, a nonprofit group itself, pours over the financial statements of charities, compares the performance with other groups and gives them a rating. It collects no funds from evaluated charities.
