Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation
In 1981, Elizabeth Glaser contracted the AIDS virus through a blood transfusion and unknowingly passed it on to her children. Her tragedy spurred the founding of the Pediatric AIDS Foundation in 1988, and since then the organization has fought to eradicate pediatric AIDS. Through funding research, beginning global health programs and launching advocacy campaigns in Washington, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation has been at the front of the war on the disease. Their programs include family initiatives that prevent transmission of the virus from mother to child and research and training programs in the medical community, among others.
