About 100 million people worldwide have diabetes and suffer from its complications of heart disease, stroke, kidney disease and blindness. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation hopes to find a cure for the disease. Founded in 1970, the world's leading diabetes organization has given out more than $410 million for diabetes research. JDRF relies on volunteers at its local chapters to help raise funds and awareness. The foundation also holds Walk to Cure Diabetes events in 170 locations in the country. International affiliates of JDRF are located in 8 countries.
