Sierra Club
When it was created in 1892, the Sierra Club had 182 members. Now over 700,000 members strong, the organization is still at the forefront of environmental preservation. The group's mission is to explore and protect the natural environment and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems. John Muir and Ansel Adams played leading roles in founding the Sierra Club. Today members actively lobby Congress and the president on current environmental issues.
